Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma once again emphasized that the welfare and future of the indigenous Tiprasa community stand far above political ambitions or party-based interests.

During his latest address in Tripura, Pradyot Manikya strongly criticized the BJP-led state government for its delay in implementing the Tiprasa Accord and failure to hold the pending Village Committee (VC) elections, calling it a setback for democracy and indigenous representation.

Indigenous Welfare Over Politics

Reaffirming his stand, Pradyot Manikya said that his commitment is not to any political brand but to the people of Tripura and the larger indigenous population of Northeast India.

“My only brand is my people. The future of the Tiprasa community is more important than the future of any political party — be it the BJP, Tipra Motha, CPIM or Congress,” he stated.

He further added that he is not driven by party gains but by the vision of a secure and united future for the indigenous population.

Call for Unity Among Northeast’s Indigenous Communities

Highlighting the lack of collective advocacy among Northeast’s tribal groups, Pradyot stressed the need for unity across the region.

“Earlier the Tiprasa, Nagas and Mizos were raising their issues separately. Now the time has come to raise one voice for all indigenous people — from Nagaland to Tripura, Arunachal to Manipur. This is the spirit of North East Thansa (unity),” he said.

He added that the collective strength of indigenous groups from the Northeast should be recognized at the national level as issues like land, identity and self-governance are interconnected across states.

Criticism of Government Over VC Poll Delay

Pradyot also questioned the state’s repeated excuses regarding the Village Committee elections, which have not been held since 2016.

“The government has already sought more time from the court but the Chief Justice denied it. If the state was truly ready there would be no need to approach the Supreme Court. Democracy demands timely elections,” he remarked.

He confirmed that he will soon meet Chief Minister Manik Saha to discuss the progress on the Tiprasa Accord and the timeline for the VC polls.
