A suspected car explosion near Red Fort on Sunday evening sent shockwaves across the capital, prompting high-level investigations under terror laws.
A massive explosion ripped through the area near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in central Delhi on Sunday evening (November 10 2025) leaving at least 13 people dead and more than 20 injured. The blast occurred around 6:52 pm shattering calm around one of India’s most iconic heritage sites.

According to the Delhi Police the explosion originated from a white Hyundai i20 registered in Haryana which was parked near the Red Fort complex. The vehicle suddenly burst into flames triggering multiple fires in nearby cars and auto-rickshaws.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as “a fireball” followed by chaos screams and plumes of thick black smoke. Emergency responders rushed the injured to Lok Nayak Hospital and AIIMS Trauma Centre while forensic experts and bomb squads sealed the area for investigation.
“It was a loud explosion that shook the ground. People were running everywhere”— said a local shopkeeper near the metro gate.
Authorities have invoked the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and relevant sections of the Explosives Act indicating that a terror-related angle is being examined.
Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) have joined the Delhi Police Special Cell to examine CCTV footage vehicle fragments and witness testimonies. Officials revealed that the car had been parked for several hours before the blast.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi currently on an official visit to Bhutan was briefed about the situation and called it “a conspiracy against peace and stability.” Security alerts have since been issued across major cities airports and metro networks.
Casualties and Damage
Initial reports confirmed eight deaths but the toll rose overnight as more succumbed to injuries. Several vehicles were completely gutted and nearby shops sustained structural damage due to the heatwave and shockwaves from the explosion.
Photos and videos circulating online show fire crews battling the blaze paramedics carrying victims and debris scattered across the busy road near the Red Fort’s entrance.
Investigation and Security Measures
Investigators are yet to determine whether the blast was caused by a remote-controlled device timer mechanism or in-car explosives. The vehicle’s owner traced to Faridabad is being questioned. Sources said multiple suspicious calls and messages were traced around the area minutes before the blast.
All metro services along the Heritage Line were temporarily halted. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) later resumed operations under tight security.
Public and Political Reaction
Political leaders across parties condemned the attack urging unity and calm. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called the incident “deeply tragic” and demanded a transparent investigation.
Social media has been flooded with tributes and appeals for blood donations at city hospitals.
Why Red Fort Matters
The Red Fort is not just a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also a symbol of India’s independence and national pride where every year the Prime Minister hoists the national flag on Independence Day. A blast in such a sensitive zone has raised serious security concerns nationwide.
Looking Ahead
Investigations are ongoing to confirm the nature of the explosive materials used and to uncover possible links to organized terror networks.Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and report unattended vehicles or suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
